History
Park West is a historic sub-neighborhood within Lincoln Park, located just west of the park and lakefront. Originally home to Native American settlements, the area grew in the mid-1800s as settlers built homes along what was once the Green Bay Trail, now Clark Street. In 1896, Park West briefly hosted “Ferris Wheel Park,” the second home of the original World’s Fair Ferris Wheel (located between 2619-2665 N Clark St.), though community opposition led to its closure by 1903. The neighborhood struggled during the Great Depression but saw significant urban renewal in the 1950s that preserved many of its historic buildings. Today, Park West is a highly desirable area known for its classic architecture, vibrant Clark Street corridor, and mix of families, young professionals, and DePaul students.
